My name is Mark Hurwitz. I have 20 years of experience playing guitar, in styles ranging from jazz to rock to heavy metal. My experience includes rock bands and jazz ensembles, as well as solo guitar-- Classical, jazz, latin, and steel-string. I am able to provide instruction for both electric and acoustic guitar.
I have a B.A. in Philosophy from Pomona College, where I took extensive music courses covering music theory, music history, and my favorite, jazz band for 4 years.
Lessons Designed For You, By Me
My goal as a guitar teacher is to help you pursue your own goals. I will infuse your lessons with music theory, skill drills, your favorite riffs, or whatever you request. I try to teach the importance of music theory and sight reading, but I know that some students do better with real songs. You just let me know what you are interested in.
In live lessons, I analyze your playing and determine what you would be best served to practice, and I adapt with you as your skills grow. Some people begin with strumming patterns that progress into chord progressions. Other people start with a particular song and then study the scales for soloing over that song.
I am available by email if you have questions between lessons. And I can schedule lessons at whatever frequency you want.
Here's some info and light reading at my blog. Enjoy!
